Seeking authors for thematic issues of KnasterKOPF!!!

The editors of KnasterKOPF intend to focus future issues stronger than so far on special themes. Without actually reducing the variety (every issue will remain open to other topics, especially those pertaining to the sessions), we aim to a more targeted content firstly because we want to deal with as yet hardly envisaged but very promising aspects of the research about clay pipes, and secondly because we hope, through a concentration of articles on the same topic, to obtain a multilateral effectiveness.
Last but not least, we would like, with the following themes, to look beyond the strict limits of the clay pipes domain and enhance the productive interdisciplinary connection with many other scientific branches, which will provide still renewed perspectives for clay pipe research.

Proposal: Underwater findings (presumably No. 21/20XX).
Dealt with should be maritime sites, e.g. wrecked freights, but also isolated inshore findings or engulfed sites. No geographical limits are set; we moreover hope communications from all over the world. The history of trade and settlements should be highlighted through the deciphering of many such findings.

Proposal: Clay pipes on the world market.
Mainly dealt with should be archaeological findings of German pipes all over the world, with an eye on the history of trade and export. This theme applies to questions of offer and competition, eventual domination of clay pipes from a certain place/region on (overseas) markets, as well as design and imitation of models and fabrication marks.

Proposal: Connection between pottery and clay pipe making.
This theme establishes a particular link between archaeological and historical research. Not only the birth and the spreading but also the routine of clay pipe making are often linked to pottery. Over the centuries, many hints show the close connection between the two craft industries and their separate developments. Particular aspects of this theme are, e.g., the fabrication of glazed clay pipes, or historical questions of (common?) management, change of profession, apprenticeship, and so on.

Authors wishing to insert any communication about one or several proposals should get in touch with us. The main emphasize in the planned issues should be put on the context of the findings and annexes, on the situation of the sites and on dating hints other than pipes. We gladly offer our help for the identification of pipes. Please disseminate our ideas among colleagues who might be interested and tell us about further thematic issues.
We will be happy to read you!
